Description
The Shanti Generation was founded in 2009 in response to a need for youth-centric yoga and mindfulness resources. They merge simplified yogic techniques in a progressive, developmental style of education that meets social, emotional, mental and physical needs of young people. Their two main goals are:
1. Provide greater access to the benefits of yoga and mindfulness for older children and teens via our DVD programs.
2. Support parents and teachers in gaining a deeper understanding of the complexities and nuances involved in helping youth integrate mindfulness into everyday life.
The DVD contains numerous yoga sequences. The main menu contains five options:
1. Library of Poses: Eighteen short sequences based on three concepts, Focus, Energy and Calm
2. Breathing Room: Five mini sequences for stress management and regulation
3. Self-Connection Room: Two mindful awareness practices. These are audio only.
4. Choose Your Path:  Five half-hour yoga sequences: Creating Happiness, Energy Amplified, Choosing Peace, Being Sound and Voice Choice Possibility
5. Special Features: Meet the Peacemakers, Credits, Spanish Translation and Japanese Translation

The information on the back jacket of the DVD suggests that the yoga sequences are for youth ages 7-16.

Purpose: Low. The purpose is explicitly stated.  

Structure: Low. The organization is simple, there are explicit connections between ideas and conforms to the conventions of the genre.  Graphics are simple and mostly unnecessary for the text.

Language: Low. The language used is contemporary and conversational. It is clear and explicit and easy-to-understand. 

Knowledge Demands: Middle Low.  Everyday practical knowledge is largely necessary. Discipline-specific knowledge is helpful, but not necessary.
